What I did.... At school I was a bit of a nerd, I don't know what I was, not especially intelligent but always managed to do pretty well at exams.... I quite enjoyed science at school and after taking maths, further maths, biology, chemistry and latin (huh?) A-Levels I ended up coming to the University of Bath to study Natural Sciences. This was the triathlon of degrees - don't know what to specialise in, then why not study them all, so I did. For 4 years I studied maths, physics, biology, pharmacology, environment, psychology. The academic highlight was writing a dissertation on the relationship between elite athletes, drugs and sudden death which I will happily send to anyone interested. Did you know the heart of an endurance athlete can grow to such an extent it resembles a disease state?? We really batter our bodies. In 2007 I graduated with a First Class (Hons), relieved, relieved I decided to put my academic life to one side and try and become a pro triathlete. ![]() Graduation with Charlie and Aaron. What I do.... The number of pros who can support themselves solely from racing does not even extend to top 10 in the world, at least if your NGB doesn't care for long distance triathlon....so I work too Disability Advisor I am a mentor to university students who have autistic spectrum conditions at the University of Bath. I work closely with the students to help them with the transition to university life with a view to slowly withdrawing my support so they can be fully independent. Sometimes the work can be challenging, it is always interesting. Tutor I am a private tutor for students in Bath working through the Bath Tutors agency. I specialise in teaching maths and sciences at GCSE and A-Level. If this happens to find you and you have a son/daughter in Bath who is looking for tuition I would really like to hear from you as I am always looking for students |
