Last Sunday was the University Triathlon Championships, or BUCS, if you like talking in acronyms no-one understands.

Bath had a really good turn out, from our more experienced athletes and quite a few first time racers too. The race started with a 750m pool swim (messy), a 25km fairly flat bike, and a 5km run. Conditions can only be described as bloody cold and windy. For once, I was glad not to be racing.

   Ole seemed happy enough though!

We were missing a few of our faster athletes for various reasons but still felt like we were fielding a good team. As well as the individual awards there were also prizes for the fastest teams based on cumilated times; with the first 3 guys counting for the male team, and first 3 girls for the female team.

In the guys we finished 5th overall with; Jack 13th, John 24th, Marcus 36th
In the girls we finished 2nd overall with; Lucy 8th, Fiona 9th, Kate 12th

And IF they had a team award, like they have had up until now, we would have been Second Overall !!!

Jack and I have been coaching the club for the last year and couldn't be more pleased with the result. Finishing second overall University to Loughbrough is a fantastic result. Especially when you consider, Birmingham, Leeds, Stirling, (Eastbourne?) are still plugged in to the TASS scheme, these universities have coaches supported by British Triathlon, or at the very least their University (Jack and I have been coaching primarily on an unpaid basis).

It should be said the more experienced members of the squad are largely responsible for over seeing their own training, so I don't want to take credit away from them in any way. But it does make you wonder, with a little more support, how good could we get?

Well done to everyone who raced and good luck with the rest of your seasons!
